Apprentice - New

This Region-only certification is for new officials that have never officiated before or officials who are still in the process of learning how to officiate.  This official would exhibit basic officiating skills but need additional experience before progressing to the Provisional referee certification level. By the end of the season they should be able to:

  • Whistle timing/quality and use of proper signals
  • Understanding of ball handling as it relates to various playing techniques and player/team contacts
  • Exhibits a basic understanding of volleyball playing rules
  • Shows competency as a first referee and demonstrates reasonable match control for younger competition
  • Teamwork concepts: Ability to work with officiating crew
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of USAV scoring and scoresheet
  • Professional approach: Positive demeanor; attitude; shows adaptability and desire to learn

Requirements

Attend a Great Plains Region Certified Officials Clinic. 

If you decide to register…

  • Register with the Great Plains Region
  • Submit and clear the USA Volleyball Background Screening
  • Complete the SafeSport training
  • Complete assigned USAV Academy coursework
  • Be paired with a mentor
  • Work with mentor a minimum 4 matches (R1 and R2)
  • Work and complete a USAV scoresheet with mentor
  • Complete the referee Exam C and correct to 100%
