SafeSport certification is required for all adult members participating in junior events. Events include, but are not limited to practice, training sessions, meetings and tournaments. During the 2018/2019 season, the U.S. Center for SafeSport changed the SafeSport training to an annual requirement. In doing so, the Center launched a Refresher 1 course as part of the annual training. USAV is incorporating that refresher into the training for the 2019/2020 season and beyond. In transition, those having a 2019 expiration date are required to take the Refresher 1 (10-15 minute course) and those with a 2020 expiration date are not required to take the refresher until Core expires. In short, the annual “Refresher” training becomes required upon the expiration of your current Core SafeSport training.
If you are not sure of your certification status, log in to your membership record and look under the Current Certifications section. If you do not see it listed there but think you have completed it, let us know. You should have been sent a certificate when you completed the SafeSport training. You should see an expiration date next to the certification. If it says it expires 2019, you need to take the refresher course this season. If it says it expires in 2020, you do not have to take the refresher until next season. (2021). Once the CORE training is complete, you would need to take the refresher course each season.
Athletes turning 18 during the season, whose teammates are minors, will be required to take "Core" Center for SafeSport training upon turning 18. To prevent any disruption in play, the center will allow athletes who are 17, turning 18 during the season to take "Core" given parental consent. Once a player turns 18, he or she will not be permitted to continue play until "Core" SafeSport training has been completed. Complete the parental consent form before registering for training if you have a minor athlete who needs to take the training. Once the form is completed, your child will be enrolled in SafeSport training. A notification of registration will be sent to the email address on file to access the course.
